Up to 325,000 Queenslanders already have diabetes, and at least 60 more are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes every day. Diabetes rates have tripled in the past two decades and are expected to triple again in the next two decades. This will cause a five-fold escalation in the cost of diabetes – more than any other health condition.
This site provides maps and tables about diabetes rates in Queensland, enabling comparisons between local government areas based on rates and risk factors.
Prevalence data represents people registered on the National Diabetes Services Scheme, and risk factor data comes from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (age and socio-economic status) and Queensland Health (overweight and obesity).
